Using AI in Your Business
“The Pros and Cons of AI” is a topic of debate that has been gaining attention more and more. AI has the potential to revolutionize industries, increase efficiency, and improve the quality of life for people all over the world. On the other hand, the ethical implications of AI still remain a concern. This includes potential job loss, security or privacy issues, and misuse of technology in business, the Arts, and other areas. It is important to carefully consider the benefits and disadvantages of AI in order to make an informed decision about its development and use for you.
“Artificial intelligence is the future, and the future is here. It can revolutionize industries, streamline processes, and enhance decision-making like never before.”
Forbes
In my business, we use AI to improve sentences, revise copy for content, and assist with various tasks like voiceover editing for repurposing content and creating avatars. It’s a tool that helps us improve what we do, work faster, and do more in less time. We don’t pretend that we’re not using AI.
Pro or Imposter
Recently, I had an interesting encounter that I want to share with you. As a business owner, delegating and outsourcing is crucial to growth. Occasionally, I use Fiverr, a platform where you can find freelancers for various tasks like web development, social media management, or CRM setup. We were looking for someone to do our LinkedIn ads, and I received multiple offers after putting out my request using my predetermined criteria.
On this occasion, a gentleman who claimed to be in the United States responded, and I was very impressed with his responses and skills. Everything was so precise and on point. We set up a Zoom meeting, but he showed up late and suggested that technical issues prevented him from appearing on camera. The conversation during this short Zoom exchange made it apparent that he was not the same person I had previously corresponded with.
Based on my knowledge of African phrases and accents, working with our team in Africa, I concluded that the gentleman was possibly in Africa and was using AI to respond to my questions. However, when it came time to correspond, he didn’t have the same level of skill, and there were other red flags that made us uneasy about handing over hundreds of dollars for his services. As a result, we declined to move forward.
“While AI offers incredible opportunities for innovation and efficiency, it also raises concerns about job displacement, privacy infringement, and ethical implications.”
Harvard Business Review
Whether this was the right approach or not is uncertain, and it does go against my goal to support other entrepreneurs. Nevertheless, it often pays off to listen to my gut instinct. Thankfully, we were able to find another gentleman, who followed some great protocols, had a process in place, and set our minds at ease around his ability to complete the work. He successfully put together our campaign and showed us elements we could easily do on our own, all at an affordable price. I’m glad that we were able to get a win-win from the situation at the end of the day.

With remote work becoming more common, it is not unusual to encounter people whose true identity is unknown to us. It is important to be cautious and aware that the person you are communicating with may not be who you assume them to be. When this occurs, assess your level of comfort and establish guidelines for effective collaboration.
